As you know, the 450 front line staff at Peel CAS have been on strike for the past three weeks. Earlier this week, two members of our local APSSP executive (Nadia Kerr [VP Negotiations] and Janis Stewardson [VP Grievance/Member Issues]) attended the picket line to express solidarity and support and to make a donation on our behalf. Please consider taking some time during your lunch or after work hours to visit the picket line and offer support.
It is our understanding that one of the biggest issues in dispute is related to worker safety. Many of us have worked for CAS in the past and we are well aware of the dangers and challenges that come with that job.
We know that the risk level for children in our region is elevated as a result of the withdrawal of service by these professionals. The 100 managers and replacement workers (Yes, the CAS are using SCABs) can in no way provide anything close to an adequate level of service. In fact, we would encourage anyone concerned about a slow response to contact the Office of the Children’s Advocate and launch a complaint:
